BLAIR MAN'S FATHER DIES AT SHELBY

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 13, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus for Derold D. (Bud) Abbott, 60, who died January 10, 1982, at his home in Shelby

Rev. Mauriece Goldhammer conducted the services. Burial was in the Shelby, Nebraska, Cemetery.

Derold D. Abbott was born May 24, 1921, in Shelby to Emery and Mary Anna Luft Abbott. He married Lois Ann Moeller on November 21, 1943, in Columbus. He had farmed and been involved in an aerial spraying business.

He was active in many civic affairs, including the Shelby School Board and Shelby Town Board. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Shelby Senior Citizen Center and picked up the meals daily from the site in Stromsburg where they were prepared. At the time of his death he was Mayor of Shelby.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Ann; and one son, John D. Abbott of Blair. Two grandchildren; three brothers, Ray LaVern Abbott and Marion Abbott, both of Shelby; one sister, Mrs. Sam (Mable) Gondringer of Shelby; and many nieces and nephews also survive him.

Active pallbearers were Rolland Abbott, Jack Smith, Michael Abbott, Kevin Abbott, Randy Peterson and Todd Hiemer.

There were also 27 honorary pallbearers.

David Hatl sang for the service. Joyce Korte was organist. "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer" were the musical selections for the service.

Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home in Osceola was in charge of arrangments for the services.
