PRESCHOOL TEACHER IS SLAIN ON NIGHT OUT WITH FRIENDS

THE SHOOTING OUTSIDE A LOUNGE IN SOUTHWEST OMAHA INJURES 2 OTHERS

By Kevin Cole, World-Herald Staff Writer.

A 24-year-old Omaha pre-school teacher fatally shot outside a southwest Omaha nightclub was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, her grandmother said Monday.

Janee K. Hadan died Sunday at Creighton University Medical Center, a police spokesman said. Two others injured in the shooting, Gary M. Lockett, 30, and Brandon D. Patterson, 23, are in fair condition at Creighton, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Suzi Hadan, the deceased victim’s grandmother, said her granddaughter preferred staying at home but had gone to the Passion Lounge at 10841 Q St. with two girlfriends. Janee Hadan was the first person out of the door as the trio was leaving.

“Her girlfriends told me that everything was fine and that Janee was just walking ahead when someone in a car started shooting,” Suzi Hadan said.

“They said Janee started to run, but she ran the wrong way. She was already on the ground when her friends got to her.”

Police were called to Roxbury Plaza aobut 1:50 a.m. and found Hadan with life-threatening wounds. Hadan was taken to Creighton by Omaha Fire Department paramedics. Lockett was taken to Bergan Mercy Medical Center and Patterson went to Lakeside Hospital in private vehicles. Both were later taken to Creighton.

Suzi Hadan said her granddaughter, the mother of a 3-year old boy, worked as a preschool teacher at the Educare Center of Omaha at 2123 Paul St. About 50 members of the faculty and staff gathered at Creighton on Sunday.

“Janee was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,’ Suzi Hadan said. “She was a very gentle soul who everybody loved. This had to be an accident because everyone loved her.”

Officer Michael Pecha, an Omaha police spokesman, asked that anyone with information call the homicide unit at 402-444-5656 or Crime Stoppers at 402-444-7867, where tipsters remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
