Dean L. Oleson, 64, died Monday, March 31, 2014, in Spencer, Iowa.

Dean Leslie Oleson was born Feb. 17, 1950, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to Dwight and Leota (Lund) Oleson.

He graduated from Laurens High School in Laurens, Iowa, in 1968. He attended Wayne State College in Wayne.

On April 15, 1972, he married Deborah Megrue in Blair and they lived in Omaha.

In 1976, they moved back to Laurens to help on the family farm. The family farm became a Century Farm in 2011. As the third generation of the Oleson family, he farmed the land for 38 years. In addition to farming, Mr. Oleson was a seed corn dealer for 36 years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He loved the community and was an avid supporter of Laurens. He was on the Pocahontas County Economic Development Commission, the Laurens Industrial Foundation, the Masons, the Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity and other community committees.

The things he valued the most in life were his relationships with his wife and his family. He loved farming and being a farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Oleson of Laurens; sons: Jason (April) Oleson of Spencer and Cody (Christina) Oleson of Royal, Iowa; two grandchildren; sisters: Jill (Steve) Havik of Urbandale, Iowa, and Kaye (Dwight) Van Genderen of Laurens; and father- and mother-in-law Gene and Betty Megrue of Blair.
