Bruce McMillan, 62, Assistant To Postmaster Dies

Veteran of 34 Years in Local Postoffice Falls Dead on Lawn at Home

Services Will Be At 2:30 P.M. Sunday

Mr. McMillan, Lifetime Blair Resident Had Been Ill Several Weeks; Wife, Two Sons, Daughter Survive, Also Four Sisters

Bruce McMillan, 62, assistant Blair postmaster and for 34 years an employee of the local postoffice staff, fell dead on the lawn of his home, 1007 south Walker avenue, yesterday morning.

He had been unable to be at work the past two months and was following his daily custom of spending a short time out of doors each morning when he was stricken.

The body was taken to the Bendorf Funeral Home and has since been returned to the family residence. Funeral services, it was announced this morning, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist church, the Rev. Charles E. Harrison officiating. Interment will be in Blair cemetery.

Robert Bruce McMillan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil McMillan, was born in Blair December 5, 1876. He attended the Blair schools. On June 25, 1910, he was married at Tekamah to Miss Nora Day of Blair, and they took up housekeeping in Blair, where they have since remained.

Surviving Mr. McMillan are his wife: a daughter, Helen; two sons, Robert, Blair post office employee and Bert, now in Los Angeles, California. The latter is now on his way here from Los Angeles, and is expected late tomorrow. d Dickmeyer of Orum and Miss Agnes McMillan of Blair. Mr. McMillan once worked for the late John McQuarrie when he was operating a lumber yard here. In 1905 he became a rural mail carrier, and in 1912 was transferred to the post office building as a clerk. In 1926 he became assistant postmaster upon the death of his sister, Miss Mar (rest was missing).

Entered Postal Service in 1905. Postal Clerk in 1913. Assistant in 1926

Robert Bruce McMillan, a native of Blair, died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, May 10th of heart failure. He had been ill for about a month, and had been home under the care of a physician.

Deceased was born December 5th, 1876 in Blair, and spent his entire life here. He married Nora Day at Tekamah June 25, 1910, and to them three children were born, all of whom, with the wife, survive. The children are Robert and Helen of Blair and Bert of Hollywood, California.

Besides the immediate family he leaves four sisters, Mrs. Charles Robertson of Blair; Mrs. Frank Holloway of Glendale, California; Mrs. Fred Dickmeyer of Orum and Agnes McMillan of Blair.

He entered the mail service as rural carrier in 1905, and after serving until 1912, he was made clerk in the post office which place he filled until 1926 when he became assistant postmaster, which place he filled until his death.

During all his long tenure of service he made a host of friends, and he was respected for his integrity and fairness in his dealings, and he will be greatly missed by the clientele of the office who long ago learned to regard him as a fixture.

As yet funeral arrangements have not been made pending word from the son in California.
