The community was called upon last Friday to mourn with the family of Neil McMillan when it was learned that the husband and father had passed away. Neil McMillan was born in Argyle, Scotland, in 1837, and when but a boy of 16 came to this country where he has since resided. After coming to Nebraska he settled first in Omaha, from which place he removed to DeSoto and in 1871 took up his residence in Blair, since which time he has been an honorable citizen, enterprising and loyal to everything pertaining to the city government. Before he left Scotland he was baptized into the Free church. Last winter Mr. McMillan suffered from an attack of the grip, and from its effects he never recovered, the direct cause of his death being quick consumption. He had been up and around until only a week prior to his death, and the family did not realize that the end was so near. He was a good neighbor and a true friend. He leaves a wife and seven children, five daughters and two sons, who all reside in Blair. A brother, Dan McMillan, and family from Omaha were in attendance at the funeral which took place yesterday afternoon from the residence, Rev. Vincent officiating. The coffin was profusely covered with the ? of sympathy sent by the many friends of the family. A large number of friends accompanied all that was ? of Neil McMillan in this last resting place. The family have the sympathy of the entire city in the loss of the husband and father.

Neil McMillan’s death occurred early last Friday morning from quick consumption caused by a severe attack of grip contracted last winter. He failed slowly, but the family did not know the end was so near, as he was up and around less than a week before his death. Rev. Vincent conducted the funeral services at the house on Sunday afternoon, and a large number of friends were in attendance. A brother, Dan McMillan and family were present from Omaha. Deceased was born at Argyle, Scotland in 1837, and when 16 years of age came to this country, settling first in Omaha, later at DeSoto and in 1871 in this city. He was a good citizen and neighbor and had held several positions of trust under the city government. He leaves a wife and seven children, all of whom live at home in this city except Mrs. C. H. Robertson, who was for many years an efficient clerk in the post office, which position is now very ably filled by Miss Maggie.
