Walter McMullen Dead.

Fontanelle, Neb., April 30. – Walter McMullen, one of Washington county’s best known and highly respected citizens, was found dead in the road between his residence and the barn early this morning by members of the family. Mr. McMullen had been doing his chores about the place as was his custom when it is supposed he was taken suddenly ill and dropped over dead. He had been in failing health for the past several years, but was able to be about the place and took an interest in the work of conducting the farm.

Mr. McMullen was born in Clearfield county, Pennsylvania, in 1847 and with his parents came to Nebraska in the spring of 1864, settling near Fontanelle, where he has since made his home. He was married to Miss Addie Thorndyke of Fontanelle August 15, 1871. Of nine children born to them, six are living. They are Mrs. Eva Washburne, who made her home with parents; Mrs. J. S. Jackman of Fremont; Mrs. Garner James of Fontanelle, Mrs. J. A. Brosman of Pinedale, Wyo., Mrs. John Patterson of Ames, and Ralph McMullen of Fontanelle. His wife and mother, Mrs. Hannah Bloom McMullin, who is eighty-nine years of age, survive him. Two brothers, Welty McMullen of Burt county, and Abe of Utah, and Mrs. Lucy Cook, a sister, of Fontanelle, are the close surviving relatives.
