Mattie Jane Sheets

Mattie Jane Sheets, 68, of Blair, died on Aug. 20.

Mrs. Sheets was born in Herman on Feb. 19, 1920 to Marvin W. and Clara M. Witnack. She attended school in Herman. In June of 1936 she married Robert A. Frye and he preceded her in death in 1955. She later married Charley “Dutch” Sheets.

Mattie Sheets lived on a farm east of Herman and then in Tekamah before residing in Blair where she lived for the past four years.

Mattie Sheets was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, one sister and a half-brother.

She is survived by her children, Robert Frye of Blair, Monte Frye of Craig, Betty Grady of Craig, Harold Frye of Craig, Mary Snyder of Fremont, and Alice Gorman of Brookings, Oregon, Stanley Frye of Blair and Rose Hillman also of Blair. She left behind 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mattie Sheets is also survived by a sister, Martha Falk of Carter Lake, Iowa, Mae Method, a sister from Fullerton, California, and her sister Marie Laughlin of Omaha. She left behind one brother, Marvin E. Whitnack of Craig.

Funeral services will be held at the Herman Methodist Church on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Larry Orvis will officiate and interment will be in the Herman Cemetery. Campbell Funeral Home of Blair is in charge of arrangements.
