George Kuhr passed peacefully away last Friday at his home in this city, following an illness of several years with asthma and heart trouble. He had been unable to lie down in bed for the past three years, sleeping in a reclining chair. The funeral was held at the Methodist church at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. O.U. McProud officiating. There was a large attendance of neighbors and friends, Mr. Kuhr and his family being held in high esteem in the community. Burial was in the Blair cemetery. Mr. Kuhr was born in Schleswig, Germany February 16th, 1842, so was 83 years, 8 months and 11 days old when he passed into the next life. He followed the sea for seven years before coming to this country in 1866. He settled first at Davenport, Ia. Later he went to Boone, Ia., and then to Omaha in 1868. Here he met and married Miss Anna Drevson on February 20th, 1871 at Boone, Ia., moving to Omaha a short time thereafter. Three years later they purchased a farm seven miles west of Blair, which was their home until they moved to this city in 1900. Nine children were born to them, eight of whom are now living, Mary having died at the tender age of four years. They are Henry L., George H., Wm. F., Otto C., Mrs. Hans Wrich, Mrs. Albert Hansen and Mrs. Carl Wolff, all of Washington County and John C., of Omaha. All these children were here for the funeral service. There are also 26 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He became the owner of 800 acres of Washington county land before it was divided among the children. His long and useful life, part of it the hard life of the pioneer, has been brought to a close, and the body has been laid to rest, but the memory of such a life will live for many years in the minds and hearts of those who knew and loved him.
