MABEL DILLARD, 83

Services for Mabel Dillard, 83 of Blair who died January 15, 1993 at her home in Blair will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 15, at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be Saturday in Cozad, Nebraska.

Mabel Dillard was born January 29, 1912 in Cozad to Joseph Lewis and Cora Whitney Dollins. She attended the public schools in Cozad and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1932 with majors in English and Journalism. She continued graduate work in English at Bryn Mawr College.

She was on the staff of Colorado Women’s College and then taught English and Journalism at Sullins College, Bristol, Virginia until her marriage.

She married Laurence Thomas Dillard, a businessman in Herman, Nebraska December 27, 1952. They moved to Blair in 1954.

She also served as Volunteer Services Consultant in the Community Services Division of the Nebraska Psychiatric Institute for four years.

She was a member of American Association of University Women and the Nebraska Federation of Woman’s Clubs. She was a member of P.E.O., the United Methodist Women and the Women’s Guild of the Washington County Historical Museum.

She served a two-year term as president of the Nebraska State Division of AAUW and was a past president of the Blair AAUW. She was also editor of the AAUW Nebraska Division Bulletin and regional reporter for the Northwest Central Region of AAUW for the AAUW Journal.

She also served a term as president of the Nebraska Federation of Women’s Clubs and was president of the Historical Museum ‘s Woman’s Guild in 1976-78. She was listed in the 1976-77 Bicentennial Edition of Who’s Who in Nebraska.

She is survived by step-children, Laurence Dillard, Jr., of Manila, Arkansas and Mary Burrough and Martha Underwood and four cousins, Frances (Mrs. Kenneth) Hills, Bowling Green, Kentucky; Robert Hinton, Louisville, Kentucky; Jimmie Hague, Seymour, Indiana; and Loren Whitney, Scottsville, Kentucky.
