Marvin John Dierks, 72 of Valley and formerly of Fremont, died Monday, April 28, 1997 at Valhaven Nursing Home in Valley.

Services were April 30 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington. Rev. John Pierson officiated. Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery at Washington, Nebr.

Dierks was born Oct. 24, 1924 in Omaha to John and Sophie (Junge) Dierks. He was baptized Oct. 25, 1925 and confirmed Feb. 26, 1939 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington. He attended District No. 34 School and Bennington High School for one year. On Sept. 2, 1944 he married LaFern Nelson at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He farmed all of his life north of Bennington and had grade A dairy cows.

After retiring in 1980, they moved to Fremont. He entered the Fremont Area Medical Center March 9 and was transferred to Valhaven March 29.

Survivors are his wife, LaFern of Fremont; sons and daughter-in-law, Doug and Kay of Kennard and Tom of Council Bluffs; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Norman Petersen of Omaha and several other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard; one brother, Arnold and one sister, Marian.

Pallbearers were Adam Dierks, Jim Dierks, Jon Dierks, Matt Dierks, Tyler Schmidt, Arnie Wehmeyer and Andy White.

Honorary bearers were Alvin Arp, Chet Auch, Duane Braesch, Don Bunz, Lee Bunz, Ed Harding, Bill Jacobsen, Harold Lewis, Bob Musel, Dick Musel, Ivan Nelson, Milton Nelson, Greg Nollette, Rev. Lou Nollette, Rev. Neal Nollette, Tim Nollette, Jerry Roe, Ray Schuldt and Kurt Todtenhaupt.

Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Hadan-Golden-Reichmuth Mortuary in Bennington was in charge of arrangements.
