Frank Shefl, 97

Funeral services for Frank Shefl, 97,of O’Neill, were held Monday, April 22, 2002 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in O’Neill, with graveside services at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church Cemetery at Verdigre. Mr. Shefl died Thursday, April 18, at Beverly Healthcare Center in O’Neill.

Frank Shefl was born Sept. 2, 1904, in a log house south of Verdigre to Frank and Anna (Sladek) Shefl. He grew up on the family farm and later worked on ranches in Holt County and in the Wyoming oil fields before returning to the Verdigre area.

On May 1, 1934, he married Victoria Jedlicka at Verdigre. They farmed in the Verdigre area and for several years near Bazille Mills, north of Creighton, before moving to a ranch near Amelia. In 1980, the couple bought a residence near Inman, where they farmed and ranched for several years before moving to O’Neill. Mr. Shefl managed several bluegrass yards, and also worked as a brand inspector and chute man, checking livestock at the area livestock markets.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in O’Neill.

He is survived by his wife, Victoria, of O’Neill, two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Charlotte Shefl of O’Neill and Michael and Joan Shefl of Blair, six granddaughter, seven great-grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law, James and Grace Shefl, and a sister-in-law, Marie Shefl of Winnetoon.

He was preceded in death by two parents and three sisters.
