Arletta M. Schlapfer, 84, formerly of Arlington, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at the Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington. Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery. Visitation begins one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Arletta M. Gaines was born Aug. 1, 1929, to Edward and Grace (Vannatta) Gaines in Elk City.

She was raised and lived in the Arlington area all of her life. She attended school in Arlington.

She married Richard E. Schlapfer on Oct. 5, 1951 in Blair. He preceded her in death Oct. 20, 1978.

She was employed by Marshalls Nursery at Arlington for more than 20 years. She also was a teacher’s aid at the Arlington Public School for five years.

She was a member of the Arlington Community Church and was in the church circle and church choir. She was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader.

She is survived by son Allen Schlapfer of Fremont; daughter Amy Jo Schlapfer of Arlington; and grandson, Derek Schlapfer of Rawlins, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard; sister Frieda Gaines Martens; and brother Delbert Gaines.
