Shirley C. McNew, 76

Shirley C. McNew, 76, of Fort Calhoun, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, in Omaha.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Jaynes Street Community Church of God in Omaha.

Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Shirley C. McNew was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Omaha, to Albert and Vealura Karnett.

She married Charles McNew in Omaha on July 8, 1950.

Mrs. McNew was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Naomi Chapter No. 121 in Fort Calhoun. An accomplished pianist, she taught piano for more than 50 years, and was the accompanist for the Fort Calhoun High School Choir for many years. She was a member of Jaynes Street Church of God, where she taught Sunday School and was the church accompanist. She was on the Washington County Election Board and the Washington County Extension Service.

She is survived by her husband Charles; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Jan McNew of Omaha, and Scott and Lynnette McNew of Fort Calhoun; daughters and son-in-law, LuAnn and Ed Buchardt of Blair, and Nancy McNew of Fort Calhoun; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; sister, Loramae Vermehen of Omaha; brother-in-law and wife, Robert and Arlene McNew of Fort Calhoun; sister-in-law and husband, Illa and Dwight Wenzel of Nebraska City.

Memorials are suggested to the Jaynes Street Community Church of God.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun was in charge of arrangements.

Calhoun; sister, Loramae Dermehren, Omaha; grandchildren, Joshua, Alex, Nathan, Lizabeth, Brandon, Logan, Cameron, Morgan; 3 step grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; brother in law and wife, Robert and Arlene McNew, Ft. Calhoun; sister in law and husband, Illa and Dwight Wenzel, Nebraska City; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is 3-8 pm Monday at funeral home with family receiving friends 6-8 pm. Funeral service 2 pm Tuesday at Jaynes Street Community Church of God. Interment Ft. Calhoun Cemetery. Memorials to Jaynes Street Community Church of God.
