Coral J. Stricklett, 85

Former Hastings resident Coral Jean “Sally” McVicker, 85, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, in Omaha.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings. Interment will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings.

Coral Jean “Sally” Stricklett was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Blair to Peter and Esther Belle Stricklett, the fifth of their six children.

She attended Blair Public Schools and later graduated from Midland College.

On July 31, 1943, she married John Roderick McVicker in Blair.

The couple moved to Hastings in 1959, where Mr. McVicker owned a lumberyard until his death in 1980. Mrs. McVicker moved to Omaha in 2003.

Mrs. McVicker was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, sang with the Sweet Adelines and the YWCA Coralettes, was moderator of the Church Circle and volunteered some of her time with the Friends of the Library, YWCA summer camp and night care for the elderly.

She is survived by her six children, Coral Jean Erikson of Graham, N.C., Janet Blomendahl of Hooper, Bruce McVicker of York, Joyce McVicker of Omaha, Marsha Coxbill of Scottsbluff, and Mark McVicker of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and 16 nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the Hastings Public Library and the YWCA.
