George Metzinger Passed Away

Well Known Blairite And Highly Respected Citizen Dies In Omaha Hospital

A couple of weeks ago the Enterprise noted that George Metzinger had been taken to an Omaha hospital for treatment, upon the advice of his friend, James E. Maher, who accompanied him and made all necessary arrangements for his care and medical treatment. The physician placed in charge diagnosed his ailment as mental prostration and gave his friends little hope of his recovery.

Mrs. Metzinger was with him most of the time and last Sunday his children and brother, Marion, were summoned to his bedside, going down on the 5:30 p.m. train, and at 3 o’clock the next morning his spirit passed to the great beyond. The remains were brought to his home here in Blair the same afternoon and the last sad rites were performed at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, the pastor of the Congregational church officiating.

He was a native of Iowa; born in 1859. His family consists of a wife, two sons and three daughters. He also has five brothers and two sisters living, one brother, Marion, residing here, another brother, Alonzo, was formerly a well-known resident of Blair, but now lives in northern Minnesota and was unable to attend the funeral. The other brothers and sisters were in attendance.

Deceased had resided in Blair, with the exception of a couple of years spent on a homestead in South Dakota, for nearly thirty years. He had many friends and enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all who knew him.
