William D. Metzinger, 58, of Birmingham, Alabama, who died February 27, 1982, was cremated Monday, March 1, and his ashes strewn at sea.

William D. Metzinger was born in Blair to Charles and Marjorie Wilkinson Metzinger. He completed high school in Fremont where he moved with his mother and sister after his father’s death.

After completing high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served as a Navy pilot and was a veteran of World War II. He was a Lt. Commander when he retired after serving his country for 28 years.

His wife, Millie, preceded him in death in 1979.

He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Metzinger of Blair; one sister, Gloria Marshall of San Diego, California; one aunt, Alice Schaefer of Omaha; one uncle, Thomas Wilkinson of Winter Haven, Florida; and many cousins.
