ARNOLD DEY, 90

Arnold Carlos Dey, 90, of Elk Horn, Iowa, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.

Services were Dec. 30 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Walnut, Iowa. Rev. Don Schlesselman officiated. Burial was in the Fort Calhoun, Neb., Cemetery.

Mr. Dey was born near Gresham, Neb., Sept. 27, 1907 to Louis and Anna Wulf Dey. While he was a child, the family moved to the Fort Calhoun area. He attended school through the tenth grade at which time he quit to work on the family farm. On Feb. 3, 1940, he married Helen Krambeck at Omaha. They farmed in the Elk City, Neb., area until 1947 when they moved to the home farm near Fort Calhoun. He retired from farming and moved to Walnut in 1973. He had lived at the Salem Lutheran home since 1995.

He was a founding member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and was active in the church, serving in various offices of the church.

Survivors are his wife, Helen Dey of Walnut; their daughter and son-in-law, Ardythe and Neal Smith of Walnut; grandchildren and spouse, Andrea and Jeff Kester of Minneapolis, Minn.; Clinton Smith, at college, and Regina Smith, Walnut; two sisters, Agnes Staben of Blair; Lucille Eggleston, Beaver Lake, Neb.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marjorie Smith and Nadine Nord; and three brothers, Donald Dey, Carlos Dey and Harold Dey.

Pallbearers were Jeff Smith, Edwin Mills, John Eggleston, Wade Milles, Ken Smith and Larry Kock.

Honorary bearers included Lester Thunn, Chuck McNew, Harvey Soll, Richard Burmeister, Richard Mester, John Sampson and Elmer Fischer.

Mrs. Wallace Pattee was organist. Ken Smith was soloist.
