Rogers Pope, 89, of Tecumseh, died June 16, 2006 at Belle Terrace in Tecumseh.

Rogers Pope was born July 18, 1916, in Tecumseh to Dale and Mae (Montz) Pope. He lived around Tecumseh during his childhood and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1934.

After graduation, he began farming and raising cows, which quickly became his passion and lifelong occupation.

On April 3, 1944, he married Betty June Taylor. The couple operated a Grade A dairy for nearly 50 years near Tecumseh.

Mr. Pope loved hunting, especially deer hunting in western Nebraska; fishing with his wife and grandchildren; spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren; and teaching his grandchildren of art of milking cows, fishing and driving tractors and trucks.

He was a member of the Johnson County Fair Board and was a 4-H leader for many years. He was a friend to all who knew him and was a living testimony to the values of rural hospitality and hard work.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Patricia Pope of Tecumseh; daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Jim Cheek of Washington; Sandra and Stan Sweat of Eagle; son-in-law, Ron Boden of Sterling; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Arlene Pope of Syracuse, Bob and Naomi Pope of Table Rock, Eugene and Carol Pope of Tecumseh; sister, Dorothy Phillips of Tecumseh; sisters-in-law, Theoma Pope of Tecumseh, Marge and Bob Shonoerd of Lincoln, and Mary Jo Becker of Osceola; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; daughter, Marilyn Boden; and brothers, John and Richard.
