Calvin Metzler, 66

Services for Calvin Metzler, 66, who died at Alpine Village in Verdigre December 22, 1991 will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 26 at First Christian Church. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery with military graveside services.

Calvin Metzler was born on April 6, 1925, on a farm east of Tekamah, Nebraska to Jonas and Gertrude Barger Metzler. He attended rural school in Tekamah and also served in the armed forces during World War II.

He married Cora Salsbury at Tekamah May 3, 1941. She preceded him in death in 1984.

He farmed east of Tekamah and after the war worked for Kelly-Ryan Manufacturing. In the late 50s he owned and operated the Lacy’s Café for 17 years. Prior to his retirement, due to ill health he worked for IPS in Sioux City, Iowa as a steamfitter.

He was a member of the Blair Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He served on the Blair City Council, Blair Fire Department and helped form the Blair Community Credit Union.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, six brothers and one infant grandchild, Kiley.

He is survived by his children, Rick Metzler, Verdigre, Nebraska, Wayne Metzler and Veida (Mrs. Kirk) Bull, both of Black Canyon City, Arizona and Patsy Hoxsie, Las Vegas, Nevada; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three brothers, George, Tekamah; Earl, Blair, Nebraska and Glen, Omaha, Nebraska.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
