Earl L. Metzler, 89, of Blair died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997 at his home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Metzler was born April 13, 1908, in Tekamah, Neb., to Jonas Oliver and Gertrude Mae (Barger) Metzler. He attended the Tekamah schools and farmed until he began driving for the Bies Transfer Company in Tekamah. He drove for them until 1967. On Dec. 21, 1927, he married Frances Elnora Bies in Blair. They moved to Arvada, Colo., in 1967 to be near their daughter. He then worked for Lutheran Medical Center in Arvada until retiring in 1972. They then moved back to Tekamah. They moved to Blair in 1983.

Survivors are his wife, Frances of Blair; a daughter, Frances Louise Cox of Arvada; granddaughters, Sandra Lea Hawthorne of Fremont; Cathrine Sue Allen of Aurora, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Ricky Lee Hawthorne and Cheri Lynn Koprek; a great-great-granddaughter, Aryanne Louise Koprek; one brother, Glenn Metzler and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Barbara Ann Cox; a great-granddaughter, Tinna Louise Hawthorne; sisters, Elizabeth Bohannon, Ernie Hampton, Annie Daniels, Ethel McIntosh, LaZetta (Campbell) Brundage; and brothers, Ernest Metzler, Harold Metzler, Oliver Metzler, Adison Metzler, Calvin Metzler, George Metzler, Jim Metzler and Kenneth Metzler.
