James M. Metzler Is Called

The death of James M. Metzler occurred at his home on the farm, east of Herman, last Tuesday evening. He had been a constant sufferer from an internal cancer for the past year of more, in recent months confined to his home.

It fails to the lot of few men to be universally respected and esteemed by everybody who knew them as “Jim” Metzler was during his lifetime; he was a big-hearted, conscientious, honest man in whom everybody confided, and his death, though not unexpected for months past, is more in the nature of a personal bereavement to his friend and associates, than just the passing away of an acquaintance and neighbor.

Deceased was a native of Pennsylvania, born January 30. 1854 and came to Nebraska with his parents who settled in Burt County when he was a boy. Thirty-five years ago he and Eva King, sister of Elza King, of this city, were married in Burt County, making their home there until some fifteen years ago when they came across the line into this county and located, engaged in farming.

The widow and four children are surviving family relatives. The children are Kate, wife of Rob. Anderson, living for the past two years at Powell, Wyoming; Fred living on a farm near the home; Clyde, in a hospital in France, recovering from injuries received in battle early in the summer, and Don, who lives at home.

The daughter, Mrs. Anderson, had returned to her home in Wyoming, a fortnight or so ago after being with her mother helping to care for her father for two months. She and her husband are expected here in time for the funeral which is to be held tomorrow, Saturday, at the home at two o’clock.
