Blair People’s Brother Buried In Tekamah

Funeral services for Jimmie M. Metzler, Sr., 67, of Tekamah who died May 3, 1981, at Nebraska University Hospital, were held Friday, May 8, 1981, at First Presbyterian church in Tekamah. Burial was in Tekamah Cemetery.

Jimmie Martin Metzler, Sr. was born November 3, 1913, son of Jonas and Gertrude Barger Metzler and was raised on a farm near Tekamah, Nebraska. He attended and graduated from District 19 School in the Lower Arizona Township.

Jimmie and Doris Smith were married on June 5, 1940, at which time he was engaged in farming. They continued to farm until 1959. To the union four children, Phyllis, Delores, Jimmie, Jr. and Diana, were born.

In 1958 they purchased the Tek Inn which they operated until December of 1975. From 1963 to 1973 they owned and operated the Lyric Theater. Since retirement in 1975, his time was spent hunting, fishing and traveling.

He was baptized in the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints on June 13, 1954. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Orange Lodge Number 23.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmie, Jr., and one granddaughter, Celisa Kay.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, of Tekamah; and three daughters, Phyllis Breck of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, Delores Feuerbachler of Manhattan, Kansas and Diana Metzler of Tekamah. Five grandsons; three granddaughters, three sisters, Mrs. Erna Hampton, Mrs. LuZeta Brundage, both of Blair, and Mrs. Elizabeth Bohannon of Craig; and four brothers, Earl and George, both of Tekamah, Glen of Omaha, and Calvin of Blair, also survive him.

Hamel & Peck Funeral Home in Tekamah was in charge of arrangements for the services.
