Mrs. John Kuhr, Sr. Dies on Tuesday

Pioneer Resident Dies at Home in Blair

Mrs. John Kuhr, Sr., as Margaretha Wulf was born in Spanan, Jaimstedt, Germany, on August 9th. 1857, and died at her home in Blair on Tuesday, July 21.

She came to this country in the year 1874 where she made her home with the family of the late Gus Lundt and later on the old Stewart farm with the family of the late James Stewart, Sr. She there met her husband, John Kuhr, a young German who had settled in the Orum neighborhood seven miles west of Blair on a homestead and on April 24, 1875 they were married and took up their lives together on the farm there where they lived happily together for some thirty years. Here they established a hospitable home and here they reared a large family of children and assisted in every way to do their part as sterling pioneers to build up a fine home in a new country. Eight children came to bless their union, six of whom survive. One child died in infancy and Mrs. Chris Wrich, a daughter died in 1916. The husband and father died on November 21st, and Mrs. Kuhr never ceased to mourn his passing.

The surviving members of the family are: John and Lena living at home, Mrs. Herman Rahlfs of Kennard, Herman Kuhr of Kennard, George H. Kuhr, Jr., of Blair and Mrs. Sam Holstein of Washington. She also has 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A brother, Claus Wulff, also survives and her brother, Chris Wulff, died a year ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Kuhr moved from the farm to Blair in 1903 and have since made their home here living with the respect and love of neighbors and friends alike all of whom regret her death and extend sympathy to the surviving children.

The funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church at 2:30 this (Thursday) afternoon with Rev. A.F. Newell officiating. Six grandchildren will act as pallbearers.

MRS. JOHN KUHR

Margaretha Wulf was born in Germany August 9, 1857. She came to America in 1874 and here she met and married John Kuhr on April 24, 1875. The marriage ceremony was performed in Blair by Judge Jesse T. Davis.

Immediately after their marriage they went to their farm seven miles west of Blair where they lived until 1903 when they retired from active farm work and moved to Blair. Here this worthy couple passed the declining days of their lives in peace and contentment. Always in close touch with their children, their life was complete. Last fall the husband answered the last call, and since that time the devoted wife, although bolstered up and encouraged by her children, was very lonely and waited only for the call of Him who holds the destinies in His hands. She passed away Tuesday, July 21, with the children at her bedside, a very present help in her time of trouble.

To Mrs. and Mrs. Kuhr eight children were born. One daughter, Emma, passed away in 1916, and another passing in infancy. The remaining ones are John and Lena, who are still at home; Mrs. Herman Rahlfs of Orum; Herman of Kennard; George of Blair, and Mrs. Sam Holstein of Washington. Besides the grief-stricken children, she leaves twenty grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a twin brother, Claus Wulf of Blair.

The funeral services are to be held this Thursday afternoon at two o’clock from the home on west Grant street and at 2:30 from the M. E. church with Rev. A. F. Newell officiating, and interment will be made in the Blair Cemetery.
