Anders Christensen died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jas. Kirby, opposite the Methodist Church west, at a little house before 12 o’clock last Saturday of diabetes, having been in bed but about ten days. He had been afflicted with this disease for several years but his natural vigor had kept him going until almost the last week of this life.

One funeral service was held at the Danish Lutheran Church at 1 o’clock Sunday afternoon, at which Rev. P. S. Vig, Rev. N. P. Lang and Rev. Theo. Schultz spoke. English music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. Herman Struve, Miss Mary Cook, F. W. Arndt and the writer, at the request of the family. The body was taken to St. Paul, Neb., on the afternoon train, accompanied by the entire family present. Another service was held at the Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, conducted by Rev. H. C. Petersen, of Dannebrog. The body was laid to its final rest by the side of his wife, whose death occurred thee March 29th, 1899.

Mr. Christensen was born on Mors Island, Denmark, August 18th, 1840, and was therefore just 78 years and five months old the day of his death on the 18th of January, 1919. He was married there to Miss Margrethe Jensen in 1861 and in 1864 served in the Danish Army during the war with Prussia when Schleswig and Holstein provinces were wrested from Denmark. In 1866 he came to this country, having only enough money to get him to New York. A friend loaned him money enough to take him to southern Wisconsin, where he worked and in two years made enough to go back and bring his family over.

In 1879 the family moved to Howard County, where they made their home but for one year spent in New Mexico, until they came here nine years ago.

There were seven children two of whom are dead, Peter being drowned in Wisconsin at the age of 21 and Nels died at Venango, Neb., five years ago. Only the three daughters are known here, Mrs. Julius Petersen, Mrs. Jas. Kirby and Mrs. A. R. Brock, now of Rising City. James lives at Waunakee, Wis., and was here to attend the funeral services. Sam lives in Kansas but they were unable to reach him in time for the funeral.

Mr. Christensen had a reputation for improving the property wherever he lived, and this he certainly did while he lived in Blair. He bought the old Farnsworth property on west Lincoln Street and it blossomed into a very attractive place before he sold it to Soren Rasmussen. Then he bought the old Hicks Clark corner and made two neat and attractive houses grow where but one old house stood before. Such a man ought to not die, there is such need for him in Blair. But the end must come for all of us some time, no matter how much we are needed or how much we are in the way. The sorrowing children have the sincere sympathy of many friends and the memory of a loving, industrious and useful father to cherish until they join him on the other side.
