Ardyce M. Christensen, 83, of Fremont died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

She was born Nov. 5, 1927, in Chappell to Edward and Clara (Anderberg) Kanter. Her elementary school years were spent in a one-room school. She graduated from Deuel County High School in1944, then attended Luther College in Wahoo, graduating in 1946.

She then worked in the Deuel County Courthouse as the deputy county treasurer. During this time she met Billy T. Christensen, and they were married Nov. 27, 1949, in rural Chappell. They moved to a farm south of Oshkosh where she helped her husband with the farm work. She also worked for Midwick Welding Transformers in Oshkosh. She had been a receptionist in the office of Drs. Seng and Albee in Oshkosh, and a bank teller at Lisco State Bank. The couple moved to Arlington in 1967 and she worked a s a teller at Washington County Bank, then was the secretary for the superintendent of Arlington Public Schools. And in 1998, she retired as the receptionist and insurance clerk for Cr. Dilley, Adams and Henricks.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (and husband, Allen) Ahlers of Fremont and Brenda (and husband, Mike) Zingler of Lincoln; two sons, Larry (and wife, Debra) Christensen of New York and Timothy (and wife, Pam) Christensen of Omaha; a sister, Maxine Bruenning of Crandon, Wis.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in July 1993, two brothers and a sister.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Free Church, 20th Street and Lincoln Avenue, in Fremont with the Rev. Chad Knudson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
