William A. Meyer, 58, of Fort Calhoun, died Friday, May 15, 1998, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be today at 10:30 a.m. at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun. Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

William Arthur Meyer was born April 15, 1940, in Hastings to Arthur William and Gladys (Muriel) Miller.

He grew up in Omaha and went to high school at Omaha Tech, playing on the football team. He received a football scholarship to Doane College in Crete. He later transferred to Peru State’s Teacher’s College where he received his bachelor of science in education degree in social studies and physical education.

On July 2, 1960, he married Christie Hays in Peru. They lived in Peru and then Auburn before moving to Fort Calhoun. The couple taught in Fort Calhoun for a few years.

He and his brother-in-law bought the grocery store in Fort Calhoun and he ran it for a few years.

He worked 20 years as an auditor for Hawkeye Security insurance company in Omaha. During that time he belonged to an auditors’ association.

He had been in failing health the past 12 years and suffered from multiple sclerosis and a heart condition. He enjoyed the visits of nurses and nurses aides who visited him through Blair Home Health Care.

He loved sports.

He was a member of the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Christie; three daughters and their families, Ann and Wesley Devney of Blair; Karey Meyer and Bill Soll of Fort Calhoun and Wendy and Kevin Allely of Omaha; four grandchildren; one brother and two sisters.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
