Death Wins Battle

At 11:30 last Friday morning a phone message reached Blair that the battle was over, and that the bright and promising life of Jeaneve Meyers, the daughter of Supt. and Mrs. Meyers, had passed out at the Wise Memorial Hospital in Omaha. For two long months the battle raged, and the wide circle of friends yearning to be of help, awaited the issue. But at 6 a.m. Friday morning the sweet sleep stilled every pain, and all was at rest.

Jeaneve had attained the age of 16 short years, 1 month and 8 days, but her life was one continual flood of light and life, always having been the very embodiment of hope and cheer in the midst of her wide circle of friends. Since the close of the schools she was confined to her room and on July 8th was conveyed to the hospital in Omaha, where the terrific battle raged just two months.

Rev. Chas. P. Lang, the Methodist pastor here, who had also been her pastor at Oakland, conducted the funeral services, Saturday at 1 p.m. Dr. C. R. Mead sang “Homeland,” and the scripture passages read were favorites of the deceased; the service brief and impressive, and interment in the Blair cemetery.

Relatives and friends in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Meyers, of Ponca, Mr. and Mrs. I. Conner, D. W. Conner and son, of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Logan, of Norfolk, Mrs. Dr. A. S. Wasson, Sioux City, Ia., Prof. Penney, of Lincoln, Mrs. H. Tunberg, of Tekamah, E. W. Harding, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Peden, of Oakland, and the Misses Maudlin, Sallander, and Rosen, teachers in the Oakland schools, besides a number of former classmates from that place.

Three of the pallbearers were High School boys from Oakland and three from Blair. Willing hands and kind hearts did all that was possible to impart consolation to the bereaved parents and the rich floral offerings were but a slight token of the high esteem in which the deceased was held.

To us it will ever be a great interrogation, why a life just unfolding with all the promises must be transferred from this field of action where there is so much room for stars of such a magniture to radiate – but His thoughts are not our own, and as we bow to the inevitable, we can fully realize that even this short life has not been in vain, and that the sweet memories that reflect from this loving life will be a blessing to many.

Note: Since the actual death date was not given, the news article date was used.
