Howard C. Campbell, 82

Howard C. Campbell, 82, of Blair, died Friday, May 23, 2014, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair.

Howard C. Campbell was born Dec. 12, 1931, to Howard F. and Ethel L. (McMurtrie) Campbell in Blair.

He spent his time growing up in Blair playing many sports and hunting and fishing with his brothers and close friends.

He served as a paratrooper in the Korean War and had the honor to be chosen as a personal bodyguard to Gen. Douglas MacArthur.

He married Anne C. Hitchman on May 27, 1950, in Kansas City, then raised two children: Christine “Chris” and William “Bill.”

Mr. Campbell loved all sports and the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman. He will be fondly remembered for his elaborate storytelling and his hilarious one-liners.

He is survived by brother Jerry Campbell of Olathe, Kan., children: Christine (Steve) Herron and Bill (Coleen) Campbell, all of Kansas City, Mo., grandchildren: Lisa Hearn of Las Vegas, Nev., Brandy Early of Kansas City, Mo., Carie Busboom of Westfield, N.J., Chasity Fry of Kansas City, Mo., Shana Wilson of Kansas City, Mo., and Abbie Thompson of Blair; 23 great-grandchildren, extended families and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; his parents; sister Deloris; and brothers: Bert and LeRoy.
