Former Blair resident Marten Anderson, 48, of Kearney, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at BryanLGH Hospital in Lincoln as a result of a brain aneurysm.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Marten “Marty” Anderson was born Jan. 20, 1956, in Omaha to Finely C. and Ethel L. (Ash) Anderson. He graduated from Blair High School in 1974. He entered military service on Sept. 16, 1974, and served in the Navy as a nuclear machinist mate on nuclear submarines until he was discharged on Nov. 11, 1977.

On July 28, 1979, he married Jimmi Ann Hunt in Blair.

Mr. Anderson worked for the City of Littleton, Colo., as a building maintenance supervisor. While employed in Littleton, he attended Redrocks Community College and then the University of Colorado in Denver. He was a helicopter flight instructor in Colorado and later flew crews and equipment to oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. The Andersons moved to Kearney in September of 1990. There, Mr. Anderson was employed as chief pilot for Rodgers Helicopter Service and flew the AirCare Helicopter for Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson also owned the Anderson Cycle and Auto Sales Company, where they sold Harley Davidson motorcycles, and automobiles.

Mr. Anderson was a life member of the Harley Owners Group and the Submarine Veterans Group, and a member of the Professional Helicopter Pilots Association.

He is survived by his wife, Jimmi Ann of Kearney; mother, Ethel L. Anderson of Kearney, formerly of Blair and Omaha; brothers-in-law and wives, Dan and Sandy Sitzler of Carter Lake, Iowa, and Rich and Marne Armstrong of Oceanside, Calif.; aunts and uncles, Bud and Shirley Fouts of Aurora, Colo., Jerry and Elouise Graves of Hickman, Erma Cavanaugh of Omaha and Maie Ash of Gretna; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Finley.
