Douglas Probst, 49

Services for Douglas L. Probst, 49 of rural Nickerson who died February 29, 1996 at his home were Monday, March 4 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. Rev. David Korth officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery at Fremont.

Douglas L. Probst was born October 24, 1946 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He moved to Fremont where he attended the former St. Patrick’s Elementary School and then attended Bergan High School for a year. He then moved to Snyder where he graduated from high school.

He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned a master’s degree in education and administration. He also had a master’s degree in guidance counseling from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

He taught at Snyder, Coleridge and Fairfield-Sandy Creek Schools. He then was a principal at St. Bonaventure School in Columbus and later worked for D & L Manufacturing in Columbus. He was a guidance counselor at the Nebraska School for the Deaf in Omaha from 1990 to 1994.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont and a former member of the Lions Club in the Fairfield and Edgar area and at Coleridge. He was also a member of the National Education Association, Nebraska Association for Counseling and Development, Nebraska School Counselor Association, Nebraska Mental Health Counselors Association and the American Academy of Medical Hypnoanalysts.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Survivors include a son, Troy of Lincoln; two daughters, Shantel Probst and Krissa Probst, both of Columbus; his parents, Lester and Shirley Probst of Nickerson; two brothers, Gary of Kenora, Ontario, Canada and Dave of Fremont and a grandson.
