Frances Shinnick, 89

Frances M. Shinnick, 89, of Omaha, a native of Washington County, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, in Omaha.

Services were Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Omaha with Father James Brown, O.A.S., officiating.

Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Omaha.

Pallbearers were Lou Sully, Jr., Mark Wilderman, Joe Miller, Rob Miller, Bill Fitzgerald Dave Miller and Mike Miller.

Frances Margaret Shinnick was born Aug. 9, 1909, in the Garryowen Township of Washington County to James and Jane Shinnick, who were Irish settlers.

She had worked very hard all of her life, helping her parents with their farm work and then later working in domestic work.

She had lived in Washington County until the early 1950’s.

She retired in 1974.

Her life was devoted to her church and her family. She loved gardening and her plants and was considered a plant doctor.

She was much loved by her cousins and their children. She was devoted to Frances Sully.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun and Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Omaha.

John A. Gentleman Mortuary, Westside, in Omaha was in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by several cousins, Louis Sully of Fort Calhoun, Mary K. Miller of Blair, Ruth Laverty of Omaha and Patricia Nichols of Guam. Sister Liz Sully, O.P. of Sinsinawa, Wis., John Kelly of Fort Calhoun, Anita Peters, Kathleen Tenborg and Bernadette Mines of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary Clare Shinnick.
