(Obituary from Feb. 4, 1914 Pilot, Blair, Nebraska)

Mrs. Jacob Short died of dropsy at her home, just north of the Danish church, at 8:50 Monday morning, following an illness of about a year. The funeral was held at the house at 2 o’clock today, Rev. Geo. Smith, of Malvern, Ia., officiating. She was born in Salem, Ind., May 30th, 1836, and was therefore almost 78 years of age. She was married to Mr. Short at Salem Jan. 18th, 1866, coming to this county shortly thereafter. They have lived on the same place for almost 35 years. Besides the husband she leaves three children, Mrs. G.W. Pickell and R.W., of this city, and A.A. of Witten, S.D. She became a member of the Baptist church when but 18 years of age, and lived a faithful and devoted life almost 60 years. We can’t keep from wondering what this old world would be without the untiring faith and devotion of womanhood. Here was certainly a good example of it.
