James M. Shores, 65

Services were Friday, August 16 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont for James M. Shores, 65 of Fremont who died August 14, 1991 at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County in Fremont. Rev. Jay Kruse officiated.

Military graveside rites were conducted by members of Fremont’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the American Legion at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.

James M. Shores was born December 13, 1925 in Essex, Iowa. He grew up and graduated from high school there.

He served with the United States Navy during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific and Philippine liberation from July, 1943 to November, 1946.

He lived in Valley for three years and moved to Fremont.

He was a locomotive engineer for the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad until retiring in 1987.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont, the Knights of Columbus Council No 1497, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 200 of Fremont, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 854 of Fremont and American Legion Post No. 20.

He married Maxine Byrne October 18, 1947 at Valley.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine; two sons, James Shores of Blair and Matt Shores of Fort Calhoun; two sisters, Barbara (Mrs. Hugo0 Belter of Elkhorn and Betty Boskind of Valley and four grandchildren.

A memorial has been established to the Low Income Ministry of Fremont.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
