DEATH SUMMONS JAMES C. DAM

Through the Hooper Sentinel comes the sad news of the death of our old friend, James C. Dam, who for years has been a resident of Sheridan township.

Death came Friday, January 30. He had been in failing health for about three years but not ill enough to keep him bedfast any length of time and on the day of his death, he had been up and around as usual. Though he had suffered a recurrent attack from his malady that day, his condition was not considered dangerous, and when death came to him it came as a sudden shock to relatives and also friends. His death removed from the Admah community one of its most highly respected residents.

James Christian Dam was born in Skandeborg, Denmark, on December 25, 1872, and departed this life on January 30, 1929, at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 5 days. When a young man he came to this country and after spending some years in the vicinity of Fremont, he returned to Denmark where on March 29, 1893, he was united in marriage to Marie Dam, after which they came to this country to make their home. They spent a few years at Fremont and then moved to a farm in the Argo locality, where they lived for nine years. Later they purchased the farm on which the family has now lived for the past 24 years. He was confirmed and brought up in the Lutheran faith at an early age, and has always been faithful to his church.

Since coming to this country Mr. Dam has prospered in his agricultural pursuits, became a man well liked among his fellowmen, and was one it was a pleasure to have as a friend. He, also, was active in the affairs of his neighborhood and his passing is sincerely regretted by the many acquaintances he had made while living among us.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and four children, Mrs. Anton Petersen of Hooper; Mrs. J. L. Larsen of Davey; Mrs. W. R. Christiansen of Herman; and Edwin at home; three granddaughters; two sisters in Denmark and one brother in Indiana. A son preceded him in death.

The funeral was held Saturday afternoon with services at one o’clock at the home and at two o’clock from the Danish Lutheran church near Admah, with Rev. J. C. Petersen of Audubon, Iowa, in charge. The services were largely attended, with a number of friends being present from Davey and Fremont. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
