Edith J. Puls, 96, of Arlington, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services were Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington with the Rev. Lynn Martin officiating. Interment was in the German Cemetery in Bennington.

Edith J. Puls was born June 4, 1906, in Fort Calhoun to Ude and Bertha (Haas) Thaden. She grew up in Fort Calhoun.

On Jan. 25, 1928, she married Fredrick T. Puls in Omaha. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Washington and Douglas counties, in the Bennington and Kennard area. Mrs. Puls also cleaned homes and worked at the former Freddie’s Café in Arlington. She moved into Arlington in 1972 and to Arbor Manor in August 1996.

Mrs. Puls was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Puls and Margaret (Mrs. Delbert) Braesch, all of Arlington; a sister, Celia Haskins of Constantine, Mich; a sister-in-law, Lillie (Mrs. Alvin) Wulf of Kennard; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick, in 1989; three brothers, Otto, Rhinehart and Rudolph Thaden; three sisters, Sophie Stelzriede, Helen Kay and Hulda Dixon; and a sister-in-law, Hulda Wrich.

Memorials are suggested to Arlington Community Church, Emmaus Lutheran Church of Kennard, or the American Cancer Society.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
