ARLENE A. WEATHERLY, 1927 – 2014

(picture)

Arlene A. Weatherly, 87 years of Tekamah, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska.

Arlene was born March 25, 1927, to Albert and Violet (Wallin) Hammer in Bradish, Nebraska. She grew up on a farm in the Albion, Nebraska area and graduated from Albion High School in 1944.

She met her husband, Mack Weatherly, when he was working on her parent’s farm. It was her interest in sports that brought them together and their first date was to a football game. October 12, 1946, they eloped to Marysville, Kansas, and got married. Three daughters, Karen, Cindi and Tracy were born to this union.

Arlene was a very active member of the community. She belonged to Tekamah United Methodist Church; was a member of the Burt County Museum Board; Tekamah Book Club; Thursday Social Extension Club; and P. E. O. Chapter DC. She held several jobs during her life including Blair Wedding World, Wolfe’s Jewelry, Dick’s Western Store and driving a school bus. One of Arlene’s favorite things to do was attending Nebraska football games, after which Mack and her (they…) loved entertaining family and friends. She also loved to knit, sew and spend time at her daughter’s greenhouse. She looked forward to her dinner outings with “the girls.” Arlene was very devoted to her family and will be remembered for the wonderful cooking the family enjoyed.

Preceeding her in death were her parents, and husband.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Karen (Jim) Elliott of Craig, NE and Houston, TX; Cindy (Tom) Dahl of Papillion, NE; Tracy Weatherly of Omaha, NE; three grandsons, Scott (Jennifer) Elliot; Rusty (Arian) Elliott; Chris (Allison) Dahl; five great-grandchildren; sister, Vivian (Don) Thomas of Tekamah; special friend, Gennie Elliott; and a host of other family and friends. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.
