MILITARY SERVICE TODAY FOR WORLD WAR VETERAN

Chas. Davis, Invalid For Past Twenty Years, Died January 6

Funeral services at Campbell Mortuary, followed by military rites at the grave in Blair Cemetery, are being held this afternoon, Thursday, for Charles Edward Davis, A world War veteran. Davis’ death in Grand Island Tuesday, January 6, ended twenty years of invalidism.

Born on January 29, 1889, Davis was almost 53 years old at the time of his death. With the exception of the eight years spent in the Soldiers Home at Grand Island and those years when he served in the army and navy, his entire life was lived in Blair.

He enlisted in company F of the National Guard of Nebraska in 1910, in which he served until the World War. He then entered the Navy and served until June, 1919, seeing overseas service from August, 1918 until June, 1919. Thus he gave many years in service to his country.

On May 19, 1917 he was united in marriage to Miss Hattie Mayhew of Blair, the wedding taking place in Omaha.

Davis was a member of the Woodman of the World lodge; the American Legion post at Grand Island, the V.F.W. No. 1374 Hall County, also of Grand Island.
