Robert A. Shumake, 65 July 21, 2006

Enterprise, Blair, Nebraska

Robert A. Shumake, 65, of Tekamah, died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 19, at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah. Interment was in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Robert A. Shumake was born June 27, 1941, in Tekamah to Albert and Laverne (Moffitt) Shumake.

He attended District No. 2 school and Tekamah High School.

On Aug. 26, 1962, he married Linda Giles. The couple had one son, Michael. On June 24, 1989, he married Mary Kephart.

Mr. Shumake worked in construction and heavy equipment for more than 40 years. He enjoyed music and was a singer in a band, “The Bootleggers,” for many years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and any outdoor activity and, most recently, he enjoyed tinkering in his shop out back with a lot of old pals stopping by to visit and enjoy a “cold one.”

He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons and daughter-in-law, Mike and Jackie Shumake of Oakland, Curtis Wiese and friend, Jeannie Hemmingsen of Tekamah; stepdaughter and husband, Penny and Gregg Lohrenzen of Tekamah; stepsons and wives, Les and Cristina Kephart of Tekamah, Jeff and Maria Kephart of Blair; Justin Kephart of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; mother and stepfather, Laverne and Tom Marshall of Tekamah; sister and brother-in-law, Marge and Jim Lawson of Tekamah; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Marge Shumake and Raymond and Gloria Shumake, all of Tekamah; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert.

Pelan Funeral Services of Tekamah was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, 7/19/2006 at 10:30 a.m., United Methodist Church, Tekamah. Visitation Tuesday 1-8 p.m., family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial Tekamah Cemetery, Tekamah, Nebraska. Memorials may be directed to the family.
