Irvin A. "Tiny" Quick, 78

Irvin A. "Tiny" Quick, 78, of Casper, Wyo., died on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.

Services were Friday at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery, Evansville, Wyo.

Irvin Albert "Tiny" Quick was born April 7, 1934, in Tekamah to James Reed and Mabel (Barger) Quick.

In February of 1953, he joined the U.S. Army to serve his country as a parachute instructor. He earned a Parachute Badge, a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Tiny was honorably discharged in March 1955, but remained a patriot dedicated to his country through the remainder of his life.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Samuel Mares Post 8 in Douglas, Wyo. He served as post commander several times, District 2 commander, on several department committees and as department vice commander. He was the only department commander to serve a 1 1/2-year term. He also served as alternate national executive committeeman and national executive committeeman.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion.

He loved many sports especially baseball, football and NASCAR. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping; but his true passion was woodworking. He created furniture and wood projects treasured by his wife, children and grandchildren. He donated many items to Legion charities as well.

He is survived by his wife of 54 1/2 years, Genene (Misfeldt) of Casper; five children and their spouses, Pam and Ronnie Jackson of Rock Springs, Wyo.; Jeff and Sandy Quick of Leith, N.D.; Bill of Casper; Marcy and Cleo Cheney of Newnan, Ga.; and Scott and Shannon Quick of Douglas, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings and their spouses Mal and Margaret Quick of Wheatland, Mo., Vince and Carol Quick of Tekamah and Nondas Vitols of Blair.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Bobby; and a brother, Jim.

Irvin Albert “Tiny” Quick, 78, of Casper, Wyo., died Tuesday, November 6, 2012, surrounded by his family.

Tiny was born in Tekamah, Neb., April 7, 1934 to James Reed and Mabel (Barger) Quick where he was raised with three brothers and a sister. In February of 1953 he joined the army to serve his country as a parachute instructor. He earned a parachute badge, a National Defense Service Medal as well as a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in March 1955, but remained a dedicated patriot to his country throughout the remainder of his life. Military service has been and continues to be a pillar in the Quick family. James Reed (Tiny’s father) served in Belgium during World War II where he earned a Purple Heart. All three of Tiny’s brothers, many of his nephews, as well as Tiny’s youngest son and two of his grandsons carry on the family’s dedication to their country through military service.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Samuel Mares Post #8 in Douglas, Wyo. He served as Post Commander several times, District #2 Commander, several department committees and was Department Vice Commander. From there he continued his service with the Legion as Alternate National Executive Committeeman and Nation Executive committeeman. In addition he was also a member of the Sons of American Legion.

Tiny loved many sports especially baseball, football and Nascar, He also enjoyed his personal time hunting, fishing, and camping; but his family will tell you his true passion was wood-working. He created furniture and wood projects treasured by his wife, children and grandchildren as well.

Preceding him in death were his parents; infant son Bobby; and his brother, Jim.

Survivors include his wife of 54 ½ years, Genene (Misfeldt) of Casper, Wyo; five children, Pam (Ronnie) Jackson of Rock Springs, Wyo., Jeff (Sandy) Quick of Leith, N.D., Bill of Casper, Wyo., Marcy (Cleo) Cheney of Newnan, Ga,, and Scott (Shannon) Quick of Douglas, Wyo.; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Mal (Margaret) Quick of Wheatland, Mo., Vince (Carol) Quick of Tekamah; and Nondas Vitols of Blair, Neb.
