James R. Quick, 77, of Flemington, Mo., died Sept. 27, 2009, in Hermitage Mo.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

James Roger Quick was born Aug, 29, 1932, in Tekamah to James Reed and Mabel (Barger) Quick. After graduating from high school in 1951, he began working with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. In 1952, he answered the call to serve in the United States Army. After his return to the states, he continued his career with the telephone company until 1985. After a career of 32 years, he retired and moved from Nebraska to Missouri.

Mr. Quick came from a family with a long history of military service. His father, three brothers, and several nephews all served in the military. He was on active duty from 1952-1955 as a radio repairman in Bamburg, Germany. He loved _______

He joined the VFW before his discharge in 1955, and the American Legion in 1958. He was an active member and served several times as Commander of American Legion Post 374 in Nebraska and of the 40/8. He became actively involved with the VFW in 1985. He was most recently a member of Galmey Post 9638. He served in the honor guard in both the Legion and the VFW.

He enjoyed volunteering in his community. He belonged to the Millard Volunteer Fire Department, the Millard Police Auxiliary, and served on the Millard City Council. His family and friends have fond memories of boating, camping, skiing, fishing, and playing cards. He was an avid bowler, a dedicated Nebraska football fan, and loved his home, his family, and his cat.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis (Sutherland) Quick; children and spouses, Tanya and Charles Ericson of Des Moines, Iowa, and Rodney and Tracy Quick of Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mal And Margaret of Wheatland, Mo., Vince and Carol of Tekamah, and Tiny and Genene of Douglas, Wyoming, sister, Nondas Vitols of Blair, many nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL SERVICE 1 pm Monday October 19, 2009 followed by military Graveside Services, conducted by Millard American Legion Post #374 and VFW post #8334.
