HERMAN WOMAN DIED SUNDAY; METHODIST RITES ARE HELD TUESDAY

Mrs. Hattie Blanchard, 72, wife of Charles Blanchard of Herman, died Sunday morning after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at the Herman Methodist church at 1:30 Tuesday, the Rev. C.R. T____ of Tekamah officiating, and burial was at Elk City.

Hattie Ann Gaines was born Aug. 31, 1873, at Springfield and came to Nebraska as a child, moving to Elk City. She and Charles Henry Blanchard married Feb. 11, 1894 and in 1906 moved to a farm east of Herman where they remained until retiring and moving into Herman a few years ago. Mrs. Blanchard joined the Methodist church in 1916 and had been superintendent of the Sunday school and president of the Ladies Aid and had held other church offices.

She became a member of the Herman chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in 1914, and served as its worthy matron in 1931.

Surviving are her husband, a nephew, Aubrey Gaines of Herman and a niece, Mrs. Lee Gaines Nelson of Flint, Mich., both of whom Mrs. Blanchard raised from childhood. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. E. Christensen of Elk City; and brothers, Newton, Archie, Chester Gaines, all of Fremont, Edward Gaines of Arlington and Ross Gaines, Omaha.

MRS. C. BLANCHARD BURIED TUESDAY

Mrs. Charles Blanchard of Herman passed away last Sunday, January 27th, at her home following a short illness.

At her death she was seventy two years of age. She was born in Springfield, Illinois, and came to Nebraska when she was eight years of age.

She was married to Charles Blanchard on February 11, 1894, and until 1906 resided near Elk City, when they moved to Herman. They had no children but reared a niece and nephew, Audrey and Lemeah Gaines.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday in the Herman Methodist church, and interment was made in the Elk City cemetery.

Mrs. Blanchard was a consistent member of the Methodist church, and had been an active worker in the Eastern Star Chapter at Herman.
