OLD SETTLER ANSWERS CALL

Following an illness of several months duration, Walter E. Davis, farmer living in the New England vicinity west of Herman, passed away at his home last Monday evening, October 5th.

Deceased was born August 25, 1878 in this county and with the exception of a few months spent with his parents in Frontier county, he has made this county his home.

On January 3rd, 1901, he was married to Miss Emma Behmer, and to them ten children were born, two of whom preceded him in death. Besides the bereaved wife he leaves three sons, Clark of near Herman; Chester and Walter Jr., at home; and five daughters, Nora of Hornick, Iowa; Myrtle of Mitchell, S. D.; Laura of Omaha; and Mildred and Lillie at home. Besides these, eight grandchildren and two brothers and one sister mourn with the immediate family the loss of a loved one.

Walter Davis was a man of high moral character, a good farmer and neighbor and the countryside in his vicinity will miss him greatly in all the doings of the neighborhood. Always of a kindly disposition, he was at all times ready to lend assistance in times of stress. He was a man among men and his friends were legion.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Herman Wednesday afternoon with Rev. T. J. Reese of Blair officiating and interment was made in the Thone cemetery west of Herman.
