Elwood B. Miller, 92

Elwood B. Miller, 92, of Tekamah, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

A memorial Mass was held Thursday, Feb. 1 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tekamah. Interment was in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Elwood B. Miller was born Jan. 9, 1915, in rural Tekamah to Herley and Katie (Holmes) Miller.

He attended grade school at District No. 8, Fairview School, in rural Burt County and graduated from Riverside High School in 1934.

He was a lifelong Burt County resident and farmer.

He married Myrna Pearce in Avoca, Iowa on April 10, 1937. The couple farmed outside of Bertha and retired to Tekamah in 1981.

After his wife’s death in 1993, Mr. Miller spent his days volunteering at the Chatt Senior Center. His love of jokes and storytelling entertained all those around him.

He met Dolores Schroeder at the Chatt Senior Center and they married Oct. 8, 1993, in St. Louis, Mo. They spent many years enjoying their time between family, friends and the Chatt Center.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores, of Tekamah; son and daughter-in-law; Larry and Susan Miller of Emerson; step-children and spouses: Diane Frazer of Columbus, David Schroeder of Omaha, Don and Lori Schroeder of Broken Arrow, Okla., Denise and Jerry Dick of Blair; Ron Schroeder of Tekamah, Debra and Lester Campbell of crescent, Iowa, Mary and Kelly Ducheneaux of Tekamah, Mark and Carmen Schroeder of Lincoln, Margaret and Chris Carlson of Tekamah, Martha and Kurt Potadle of Herman; 36 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and his half-sister, Eva Climer of Lyons.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Irvan and Glen Miller; sisters, Lula Helms and Hazel Miller; half brothers, William and Robert Miller; step-brother, Raymond Martin and step-sister, Nadine Simpson.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church’s Building Fund.

Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah was in charge of arrangements.
