EX-OAKLAND EDITOR, LESTER CARLTON, DIES

Lester Carlton, 37, former editor of The Oakland Independent, died Monday at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Miss., after a long illness. The funeral will be held at First Lutheran Church in Oakland today at 2 p.m.

Mr. Carlton, long active in Oakland civic affairs, the American Legion and Chamber of Commerce, attended Northwestern University and was a World War II veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Marian; two daughters, Kathy, 6, and Ann, 2; a brother, Norman, with whom he published the Oakland paper; and his mother.
