Blair Courier 12 Sept 1891

Miller – Kennard Sept. 5, Miss Ida May Miller, age 26 yrs. Daughter of Mr. Frank Miller. Rev. Stewart of Washington assisted by Rev. Young conducted the services from the Christian church at 11 p.m. Sunday morning.

The remains were followed to the Kennard cemetery , where they were interred, by a line of mourners extending almost the entire distance from the city to the cemetery.

She had been afflicted with the dreaded consumption for a year in which she suffered much but bore it patiently until the end, which came at 8 o’clock Saturday morning.

The fatal morning dawned. A dark morning cloud had overcast the western sky, and from it fell crimson tears in the morning’s son. The lightning flash was a ray of hope, but the thunder peal was agony. Oft had she gazed at the inky clouds, and felt the chilly raindrops fall, but saw they bore the messenger of death and even the signal peal had died away, she bid adieu to earth and tears and said her last farewell.

Her spirit hovered, for a moment over the silent watchers, then passed upward through the inky clouds into the streaming light of eternal day.

How beautiful the morning sun, The bearer of eternal day. How sorrowful, when life is done, And dearest friends must pass away.
