MARY B. DAWKINS, 87

Mary B. Dawkins, 87, of Elkhorn, died July 7, 2006, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Services were held July 11 in Omaha with interment in Calvary Cemetery in Omaha.

Mary Bernice (Kilburn) Dawkins was born Oct. 18, 1918, in Chula, Mo., to Louis Mont and Sylvia Marie Kilburn.

On July 17, 1935, she married Bert Lamar Dawkins of Chillicothe, Mo. There, they owned and operated a produce and fish market. They later moved to Omaha, Mr. Dawkins worked for Wilson Meat Packing Co. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1975. After her husband’s death in March 1975, Mrs. Dawkins moved to Blair, to be closer to some of her children. She worked at Crowell Home and did babysitting in the area and at her home where she lived for about 10 years.

She later moved to Seward, Omaha, Columbus and then Elkhorn, where she resided before her death.

She is survived by six children and their families, Donna and Bob DeMeulmeester of Elkhorn; Judy Shoup, Bert Dawkins Jr., and Steve Dawkins, all of Omaha; and Christine and Jim Souchek of Peoria, Ariz.; Mary and Doug Engel of Columbus; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; 4 sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan Gibson of Chillicothe, Mo.; Mary and Wayne Lollar, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; Martha and Fred Elliott, Littleton, Colo.; Marsha and Allen Clegg; brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Nancy Brown, Durango, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Bert, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon, one sister and two brothers.
