Lavina M. Miller, 90

Lavina M. Miller, 90, of Iowa City, Iowa, died Dec. 5, 2000, at the Lone Tree Care Center following a brief illness.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Dec. 9, 2000, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. The Rev. Joseph Van Phung officiated. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Iowa City.

Lavina M. Miller was born May 31, 1910, in Hills, Iowa, to Eugene and Anna (Deitch) Jenn. She married T. Meredith Miller on July 4 1935 in Iowa City.

Mrs. Miller was born and raised on a farm near Hills, Iowa, but had lived in Iowa City since 1928.

She was a self-employed house cleaner and party coordinator for many University of Iowa faculty. She had been a waitress at the University of Iowa Athletic Club.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Iowa City Women’s Club.

She is survived by her daughter and son-i-law, Karen and Don Moore of Fremont; a brother-in-law, Ralph Bopp of Iowa City; two sisters-in-law, Opal Slemmons of Covington, La., and Velma Brcka of Iowa City; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Clem and Bernard, and two sisters, Cecilia McMahon and Celesta Bopp.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Mercy Hospital Foundation.

Lensing Funeral and cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.
