CIVIL WAR VET, 90, DIES HERE

WILLIAM K. ELY, RETIRED FARMER, SUCCUMBS IN BLAIR FRIDAY

William K. Ely, aged 90 years, retired farmer and a veteran of the Civil war, died Friday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Petersen, 203 south First street, where he had resided since coming to Blair several years ago.

Native of Knox county, Ohio, Mr. Ely was born July 12, 1846. He had been a farmer from the end of the war until his retirement about 20 years ago. Mr. Ely had married twice, and was a widower. He came to Blair after residing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M.D. Newell in Arlington for several years.

The body was taken to the Bendorf Funeral Home, and funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Missouri Valley, where his second wife is buried.

He is survived by several grown children, of whom one is a resident of Palisade, California; a step-daughter, Mrs. Hans C. Speggers of Omaha; a brother, Ed Ely of Rockford, Illinois; and two sisters, Miss T.B. Ely of Ostego, Michigan, and Mrs. Minnie Bardu of Santa Clara, California.

W. K. Ely, ninety years and seven months old, passed away last Thursday evening at 7:40, a victim of a stroke which occurred five days previously. At the time of his death he was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Petersen of this city where he had made his home for over a year.

Deceased was born in Knox County, Ohio, and came to Arlington, Nebraska over twenty five years ago, where he resided until after his wife died about four years ago. He was held in the highest esteem in the Arlington vicinity where he has many friends.

The body was taken to Calhoun, Iowa where interment was made beside his deceased wife. Besides a host of friends, he leaves a brother in Rockford, Ill, and a sister in Otsego, Michigan and another in St. Clair, Colorado, besides a son in Palisade, Colorado and a daughter also residing in Colorado.
