Dzidra V. Deklavs, 81, of Blair, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 7, at Country Bible Church in Blair. Interment was at the Blair Cemetery.

Dzidra Vilma Krums was born Jan. 15, 1926 in Riga, Latvia, to Lonis and Anna (Brizga) Krums.

At the age of 18, she was separated from her family in Latvia during the war. She met her husband, Valdermars, at a Latvian transition camp in Germany. They were married on June 23, 1947. Their eldest two children were born there. The family immigrated to the United States in 1951, and they made their home in Blair, and four more children were born here.

After decades of separation, she was finally reunited with her sister, Mirdza, in England in 1977, and with her sister, Zeltite, in Blair, in 1997.

Mrs. Deklavs enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was very involved with the family’s bee business.

She is survived by her husband, Valdemars; sister, Zeltite; sons and daughters-in-law, Aigars and Terrie of Blair and Maris and Joyce of Chicago, Ill.; daughters and sons-in-law, Baiba and Bill Cunard of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Daina and Kirby Wendt of Blair, Andra and Mark Kriesemint of Chicago, Ill., Inese and Brian Klanderud of Blair; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Aivars,, Ojars, and a sister, Mirdza.

Memorials are suggested to the Latvian Church or Memorial Community Hospital.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Services 10:30 Monday, January 7, 2008 at Country Bible Church. Burial Blair Cemetery. Visitation will begin 12 PM Sunday with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM. Memorials to Latvian Church or Memorial Community Hospital.
