Washington County native Charles Delavan, 35, of Atlanta, Texas, died April 23, 2005, in a hit-and-run accident near Queen City, Texas.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at the Fort Calhoun Cemetery, with Masonic services conducted by Solomon Lodge No. 10 A.F. & A.M. of Fort Calhoun. Friends are invited to a luncheon following the services at Schwertley Hall, located at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun.

Charles “Chuck” Delavan was born May 20, 1969 in Blair and grew up in Fort Calhoun.

He was a sergeant in the Army National Guard and served a year in Kuwait. He received an honorable discharge with many decorations and letters of recommendation from the National Guard.

Mr. Delavan was a sergeant with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Barry Telford Unit in New Boston, Texas. He was a Mason and was an avid bicyclist. He often rode his bicycle and was in training for a charity bike ride from Texarkana to El Paso, which was to raise money for fallen correctional officers.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; parents, Ruth Frahm Boham of Fort Calhoun and John Delavan of Florence, Ariz.; grandfather, Charles Delavan of Redondo Beach, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Jason Bentley of Blair; sister, Wendi Stidd of Fort Calhoun; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Myron Boham; and grandparents, Edgar and Lorraine Frahm, and Ethel Delavan.

In lieu of traditional remembrances, memorials are suggested to the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation, PO Box 348390, Sacramento, CA, 95834-8390.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun is in charge of arrangements.
